Genre Action, Comedy, Fantasy, Adventure
Stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer

The DCEU has always been in the shadow of Marvel’s main stars, but the Shazam! franchise has been an underrated gem since it was first adapted for film in 2019. This sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, just came out in theaters in March 2023, but it can already be bought or rented on Amazon. It continues the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and his friends, foster children who have the ability to become super-powered heroes with the simple use of the titular word. The first film received greater acclaim, but this sequel is sure to satisfy a movie fan who wants a lazy Saturday with some easy superhero viewing. This is probably the best Amazon Prime movie for those who want something that came out recently.

tv-ma 1 Season
Genre Drama, History
Cast Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn, Daniel Francis-Swaby, Ellis George
Created by Steve McQueen
All of Steve McQueen’s Small Axe films are worth checking out, but Lovers Rock stands above the rest. Set in London in the 1970s, the film is set at a house party and exists primarily so the viewer can revel in the joy that it depicts. There is almost no plot to speak of in Lovers Rock, but the movie doesn’t need one. Instead, it gets by on the vibe that it puts off, one that serves as a reminder of the joy of the Black community, even in the face of the oppression that constantly threatens them.

The movie led to a couple of successful sequels, the latest of which just released in theaters earlier in 2023.
